Awarded forgoing aboveand beyond

PANANIA’S Rhonda Greenaway and Sefton’s Teresa Tran have been awarded The Order of St John in recognition of going above and beyond to devote their time and expertise in helping others.

Attending more than 500 events in the local community to provide first aid should the need arise over the past 25 years, Mrs Greenaway is Divisional Operations Officer while her husband Harold is Divisional Superintendent.
They run the local branch of St John Ambulance NSW, act as volunteer trainers and run membership meetings every Tuesday night at Revesby Community Hall as well as performing their first aid duties for schools, council and other event providers.
“We also need to keep ourselves upskilled and train our local membership which consists of about 35,” Mrs Greenaway said.
“There’s no money involved, it’s all voluntary and any donations go to head office to cover the cost of equipment, our travel packs and uniforms.
“We do it because we love helping the community and making a difference.”
Though passionate about what they do, the Greenaways are now in their mid and late 70s.
“We’ll keep going for as long as we can,” Mrs Greenaway said.
Membership within The Order of St John is an honour sanctioned by the Governor-General on behalf of The Order’s Sovereign Head, Queen Elizabeth II.
