Auburn Poets and Writers mark 15th

MARKING significant milestones during the ongoing pandemic isn’t easy but members of the Auburn Poets and Writers (APW) will finally celebrate their 15th anniversary with a picnic this weekend.

Plans for their 15th consecutive performance at the Sydney Writers Festival (SWF) in April had to be cancelled, with member Danny Gardner saying pre-covid, they were poised to construct a retrospective ‘2020 on the Human Experiment’.
“How’s that for ironic?” he said.
The temporary closure of the Auburn Botanic Gardens also forced them to delay their birthday celebrations.
“Since March we have been unable to meet up physically for even a coffee – sharing our work on social media and conducting catch-ups over Zoom once a month courtesy of Auburn Library,” he said.
Formed as Auburn Poets and Writers Group (APWG) at National Poetry Week in 2005 under the auspices of Auburn Community Development Network (ACDN) and Auburn Library – the group has also appeared at the Sydney Festival, the Australian Poetry Festival, the BEAMS street festival in Chippendale and Art and About, as well as innumerable council events.
Mr Gardner says they will now mark the group’s special birthday with a ‘bring poetry and plate’ picnic at the Gardens from 1pm this Sunday, September 27.
