Auburn detective attacked

A MAN has been charged after allegedly assaulting police in Sydney Olympic Park on Tuesday afternoon.

About 1.30pm, Auburn detectives observed two men fighting at Australia Avenue, Sydney Olympic Park and when they approached and separated the pair, one of the men allegedly assaulted one of the officers before fleeing the scene on foot. The officer sustained a soft tissue injury to his hand.
The 26-year-old North Strathfield man was followed by police to a nearby carpark where he allegedly fled in a car.
The man was arrested at Auburn Police Station the following day and charged with charged with affray, assault police officer in execution of duty causing actual bodily harm and resist officer in execution of duty.
Investigations continue.
