Arrest ex-teacher over sex abuse

A FORMER teacher has been charged over the historical alleged sexual abuse of two young students in the Southern Highlands more than 35 years ago.

The 74-year-old Lakemba man was charged with five counts of sexual assault – assault and commit act of indecency, six counts of sexual assault incite indecent act person under 16 years, and two counts of homosexual intercourse with male (between 10 and 18 years).
In September 2019, police began an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse at a school at Burradoo in the late 1980s.
Police will allege in court that the man sexually abused two male students – then aged 13 and 14 – on numerous occasions between 1985 and 1987.

Doing double speed limit in crash
A MAN from Panania has been charged after police allegedly detected him travelling more than double the speed limit before crashing in Mascot last Saturday night.
Police were conducting speed enforcement duties in the Airport Tunnel on General Holmes Drive, Mascot, when they detected a grey Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution travelling at 144km/h in a 70km/h signposted zone about 10pm.
The driver allegedly accelerated, reaching speeds in excess of 170km/h before attempting to take the Foreshore Road offramp and crashing into a concrete pylon.
The 29-year-old driver who suffered suspected fractured ribs and collarbone was arrested and taken to hospital, a 22-year-old passenger who was trapped had to be cut free before being taken to hospital with internal injuries, and another passenger was taken to hospital for monitoring.
The driver was issued a Court Attendance Notice for drive in a speed dangerous and Class A Motor vehicle exceed the speed limit by more than 45km/h. His licence was also suspended.
