Arrest during rifle seizure after refusing to leave site

A REPLICA M16 assault rifle and an SKS self-loading rifle were allegedly seized by police in Auburn last Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to a business on South Parade, about 12.40pm after reports two men were refusing to leave.
Police were told the two men, who are known to each other, entered a storage room at the back of the business, carrying a large television box, and refused to leave when asked.
When police arrived, a 27-year-old man exited the room and was arrested but the second man left the scene before they arrived.
Upon searching the room, police allegedly located a black duffel bag with ammunition and a replica M16 assault rifle allegedly concealed inside, and a black box with an SKS self-loading rifle with three magazines.
A 27-year-old from South Granville was charged with possess unauthorised firearm, possess unregistered firearm (prohibited), possess ammunition without holding permit, not keep firearm safely (prohibited), acquire prohibited firearm (subject to prohibition order) and two counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.

Injures six in ‘road rage’
POLICE are investigating an alleged road-rage assault in which six people were injured at Granville last Thursday night.
About 7.15pm, a 25-year-old man was driving a car which was involved in a minor crash with a truck at the intersection of Factory and William streets. After the crash, it’s alleged the man opened the truck driver’s door and punched the truck driver multiple times – and when passers-by attempted to intervene, they were also assaulted.
The 60-year-old truck driver was taken to hospital with a broken nose and other facial injuries.
The other men who came to the driver’s assistance – aged 40, 45, 29 and 21 – were treated at hospital for a range of injuries including concussion, loose teeth, swelling and bruising, and released. The 25-year-old was also taken to hospital.
Police investigations are continuing.

Find gun, drugs in yard
A MAN has been charged after firearms and drugs were allegedly seized from a Lidcombe garden last Thursday morning.
Police were called to a unit block on James Street, Lidcombe, about 8.45am after reports of a man acting suspiciously.
Police spoke with the 48-year-old man before he was arrested and taken to Auburn Police Station.
He was later charged with possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, not keep firearm safely, possess unregistered firearm in public place, and two counts of possess prohibited drug.
Police will allege in court that prior to their arrival at the scene, the man discarded a shotgun, pistol, cannabis and other items, in a nearby garden, which were later recovered by officers.
