Supporting some of the state’s littlest superheroes as they face life’s biggest battles, Superhero Week is Bear Cottage’s largest annual fundraising appeal and this year they are aiming to raise $250,000.
Bear Cottage is NSW’s only children’s hospice, providing much needed respite and end-of-life care for children with terminal illnesses and their families, and nurse unit manager Narelle Martin says they couldn’t do it without “those superheroes in the community who so generously support us”.
“At Bear Cottage, we have superheroes in our midst every day – the staff and volunteers who provide outstanding care and immeasurable comfort, the families who find endless strength in the face of extraordinary adversity, and of course, our brave patients, for whom every day is a battle against the odds,” she said.
“It’s so important that Bear Cottage is there, providing a real sanctuary for these patients and families who are dealing with the most heartbreaking circumstances.
“It provides a place where they can not only receive the best medical care, but also have time together to create special memories.”
