Ladies club taking swing for 50 years

WITH six of the original players, one 97, in attendance, Canterbury Ladies Social Golf Club has celebrated its 50th anniversary at a luncheon in Padstow.

Starting in 1969 with 30 players, the club is still going strong, according to club president Lorraine Lloyd.
“We really enjoy our weekly game of golf together,” she said.
“And the guys at the pro shop – manager Jeff and the pro Shane – make our lives easier, they really look after us.”

Lorraine said that the beauty of golf is that you can play it at any age.
“So long as you can swing a club, you can play golf,” she said.
“We were once all learners so are more than happy to have new people join and will help them as much as we can.
“They say golfers live on average five years longer than those who don’t play and to us, there is nothing better than having a game in the sunshine with your friends while solving all the world’s problems, as you do.
“The club comprises 26 players at the moment and everyone is very friendly and supportive; come along for a game and join us for lunch afterwards.”
