A MAN has been charged after allegedly fabricating a report about being carjacked at gunpoint in Lakemba last week.
The 32-year-old man reported he was outside an address on Garrong Road about 8.20am on Monday, July 15, when he was approached by two males and threatened with a firearm.
He claimed the men demanded the keys to his 2016-model silver Toyota Camry, before one of the men left in the vehicle. Police were told the other man left in a red-coloured sedan.
The following day (Tuesday, July 16), the man contacted police to inform them he had located the Toyota parked in Monterey Street, Granville South.
When police attended they found the vehicle and a second car – a small red sedan – parked at the location.
Three men were spoken to, before being arrested and taken to Granville Police Station for questioning. They were later released pending further inquiries.
Following further investigation, the 32-year-old man was arrested and charged with dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, and two counts of make false accusation with intent subject other to investigation.
