Boys fulfil dream

IT’S not many that are able to fulfil their childhood dreams at just 13 but two Condell Park High School students have done just that, with Mansour ELMasri and Khodar Abdulkarim selected to play for the Western Sydney Wanderers in the U14s in 2020.

After being selected to play for Wanderers

Currently playing for NPL1 Club Canterbury Bankstown FC, Mansour was quietly hopeful of his selection having just returned from Madrid, Spain, after winning a four-week scholarship there to train and play.
Mansour also played for the NSW Thunder team in Futsal in January, with the all-round young sportsman saying that he was also good at school.
“I am very excited to be selected for the Wanderers as I have been a fan since I was a little kid,” he said, adding that he hoped to turn professional in a few years.
“I’m very happy that Khodar made it in too as he is talented and a great mate.
“I’m looking forward to the end of the season when I’ll do some training and then make a fresh start with the Wanderers in January.”
Dad Joe said Mansour and Khodar’s coach Joe Diles and assistant coach Lakis Notaras both deserved congratulations.
“They have done a great job, mentoring the boys both physically and mentally,” he said, adding that the family was thrilled for Mansour especially his soccer-loving brothers Mohamed, 16, and Karim, 12.
“Even in their down time, you’ll find the three of them kicking around a ball 95 per cent of the time; I used to play but soccer it was no where near as big then as now and I’m very happy for my boys since you can go far.”
