Celebrate week with free events

CELEBRATE NAIDOC week with an immersive digital journey, join the Comic Conversation and entertain the kids with free activities in the Hello Holidays program – all during the month of July.

Events will include:
The Science of the Space Race – Sputnik, Apollo and beyond on at Ashfield Town Hall, on Tuesday, July 11, 6.30-7.30pm.
Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing with a captivating talk on space exploration, scientific advancements, the future of humanity in space and the need for exploration with Petr Lebedev.
Celebrating NAIDOC week – Virtual Songlines at St Peters/ Sydenham Library, on Tuesday, July 9, 6.30-7.30pm.
Enjoy this immersive journey with digital storyteller Brett Leavy, presenting a virtual time capsule depicting Botany Bay at the time of first settlement.
Comic Conversation 2019 at Ashfield Library on Saturday, July 13, from 5pm.
Hear from comic book artists, creators, illustrators, writers and publishers as well as get the chance to see comic creators at work, have a chat to them and purchase their artwork. Full program of events at innerwest.nsw.gov.au/ComicCon
Gwenda Stanley presents: Sharing Culture at Ashfield Library on Thursday, July 11, 2-3pm.
Dance, storytelling and artefacts are used by Gwenda Stanley to share her unique and rich Aboriginal culture in this fun and engaging show. Suitable for ages 5-12.
Drawing workshop with illustrator Dub Leffler at St Peters/Sydenham Library on Monday, July 8, 11am-noon.
Learn how to draw to convey meaning and emotion as this workshop explores Dub Leffler’s beautiful new book Sorry Day. Suitable for ages 8-12.
Life of a comic book artist with Rob Feldman at Ashfield Civic Centre on Thursday, July 18, 2-3pm.
This fun and interactive show will have lots of surprises, audience participation and comedy throughout. Suitable for ages 5-12.
Comic book illustration with Louie Joyce at St Peters/Sydenham Library on Friday, July 19, 10.30am-3pm.
Learn the basics of visual storytelling through the art of comics. Suitable for ages 12-18.
