Support senior right to raise issue in care

SOME older people do not feel empowered to speak up for themselves when their aged care services are not up to their expectations

People receiving aged care services have the right to raise issues. Information and advice is freely available on their rights, including how to make a complaint about a service.
Issues experienced by older people receiving aged care services include accessing home care, understanding contracts and care agreements, explanation of fee structures (including exit fees and unlawful fees), personal care and quality of care. People also want to know about Consumer Directed Care and choices, how to get respite, and transport for medical, social and cultural needs.
Free and confidential advice on these issues is available through aged care advocates at Seniors Rights Service, the non-government and non-profit organisation supporting older people in NSW with free legal advice, aged care advice education and social support.
