Work on new club, unit block to start

WORK on the new multi million dollar apartment development and Petersham RSL – The Siding – will begin in two months.

Just over 12 months after it lodged a development application for the 357 apartments and new home for Petersham RSL, developers Deicorp have been given the go ahead.

The Siding, Petersham, has been many years in the making in collaboration between Inner West Council, the Board of Petersham RSL and Deicorp.

The new precinct will provide many community benefits including a new RSL Club encompassing a day spa, food eateries, regentrified streetscaping, green living and communal parks.

Fouad Deiri, Deicorp managing director, said that as a long-term Petersham community member, he knows first-hand how much the local businesses, restaurants and shopkeepers will value the economic benefits that the new residents moving to Petersham will provide.

He said this 357-apartment development would be distinguished by its inclusiveness with affordable housing, community spaces and new RSL Club.

Danny Fitzgerald, Chief Executive Officer of Petersham RSL, said The Siding would provide the community with a purpose-built RSL Club that guaranteed the club’s future.

It is an exciting time that will allow the club to transform and provide for the growing community,” he said.

Joe Pinto, Owner JS Pinto & Co, Petersham, welcomed the development saying the new members to the community would contribute significantly to the local village economy supporting the vast array of cafes, restaurants and small businesses.

“We are tight little community here in Petersham but we have always been willing to share our secret urban oasis with newcomers so we can all live together in harmony,” he said.
