Man charged with supplying over 200 drug caps at festival

A MAN who allegedly took more than 200 MDMA capsules into a music festival at Sydney Olympic Park earlier this month, has been charged.

Following extensive investigations, the 20-year-old man was arrested at a home at Kellyville Ridge last Thursday morning.

Police allege that he took more than 200 MDMA capsules into the event and on-supplied drugs to two other men – both 21-year-olds have been charged and remain before the courts – and other patrons.

He was charged with supplying an indictable quantity of a prohibited drug and participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity.

More than 270 people were searched and 32 charged with drug possession during a massive police operation at the music festival.

As part of the operation, police were investigating the supply of prohibited drugs, including Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), in and around festival areas.

Investigations are continuing, and similar operations will be conducted at future events.

South West Metropolitan Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Peter Thurtell, said police and emergency services continued to send warning messages about illegal drugs, and many festival-goers were choosing to ignore them.

“There is no acceptable use for drugs – the message is clear. We will continue to have a strong presence at festivals and dance parties with the wellbeing and safety of attendees our number one priority,” he said.
