Woman charged over speed, officer assault

A 25-YEAR-OLD woman pulled over by police for alleged traffic offences in Greenacre, has been charged after allegedly coughing and spitting on a police officer during a vehicle stop on Friday afternoon.

Just after 5pm, Traffic and Highway Patrol officers attempted to pull over an Audi on Greenacre Road when the driver allegedly accelerated away to more than double the posted 50km/h limit.
The Audi driver also allegedly then ran a red light, crossed unbroken lines to overtake another vehicle and ran a stop sign before stopping on Roberts Road.
An officer, who had been following the Audi, arrested the 25-year-old driver who allegedly had to be physically removed from the car and handcuffed.
The woman then claimed she was on her way to be tested for Covid-19 before allegedly repeatedly coughing in the officer’s face and later spitting at him.
She was charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, motor vehicle exceed speed more than 45 km/h, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and assault officer in execution of duty. The officer has undergone Covid-19 testing as a precaution.
