The Parramatta District Cricket Club and the Cumberland Council recently celebrated his achievements noting that he remained one of only a handful of batsmen to have scored more than 14,000 runs in Sydney Premier Grade cricket.
A plaque highlighting some of his successes will also be installed above the players entrance at the Merrylands Oval in Merrylands Park.
Playing 20 seasons of First Grade Premier Cricket for the Parramatta (Central Cumberland) District Cricket Club and another seven First Grade seasons for the Sydney University Cricket Club, he wound up his long grade career in 1973, holding the record for many years for the most runs scored in Grade cricket.
While working at Holroyd between 1952 to 1989, Mr Alderson was involved in the planning and development of many local landmarks, including the council’s administration building at Merrylands and the Central Gardens Park, as well as completing the sealing and construction of all roads within local government area.
Ex town planner bats way to win
WHILE he put in 37 years of dedicated service as a municipal engineer and the chief town planner of the Holroyd Municipal Council, Albert Henry ‘Bert’ Alderson was also a pretty good left-handed batsman.
