More staff out to catch dumpers alert

GET caught dumping rubbish in verges and parks and you are likely to be hit with a big fine and this month, extra Western Sydney Regional Illegal Dumping (RID) officers are investigating known hot spots.

Areas being targeted include Auburn, Granville and Lidcombe with RID officers penalising anyone caught dumping rubbish on streets or in parks.
Fines of up to $2,000 for individuals or $4,000 for corporations apply, with any item left on the kerbside, without having a booked collection, considered to be illegal dumping.
However Cumberland residents are also being reminded that they are entitled to book up to four free council rubbish pickups a year.
Items covered by the free collection includes furniture, white goods such as fridges, washing machines, dryers, and dishwashers as well as mattresses, bundled plant and tree clippings, carpet and floor coverings.
Co-funded by the Enviormental Protection Agency (EPA) and six councils, including Cumberland, the Western Sydney RID squad was established in 1999, with RID officers working across boundaries to co-ordinate efforts to tackle dumping regionally.
To book a free pick up, call Cumberland Council on 8757 9000 or visit cumberland.nsw.gov.au.
Small illegal dump sites of under two trailer loads can be reported directly to the council or for larger incidents, call the EPA, 131 555 or ridonline.epa.nsw.gov.au.
