Eagles poised for victory

But lower grades will need to fly high

THE Auburn Eagles are still on track to win the first grade Sydney Shires minor premiership undefeated.A determined Eagles side took on second-placed Lane Cove and finished the day with first innings points.
Auburn sent Lane Cove in to bat and on the excellent 265-par George Parry pitch at Mona Park, the Coveys were all out for 87.
Mohammed Yasir Ali did the damage with 6-27 but Raj ‘Rocky’ Lamba also took 4-33.
The Eagles declared 3-109 with Ardil Domingo, 28, Sam Evans, 29 and Waleed Jalil, 22 not out.
‘Yas’ opens nowadays with pace but switches to very deadly off-spin after a few overs. At more than 190cm tall, his balls come thundering down from a good height and they turn.
Evans also plays for Leicester County in England and needs to return home for pre-season training, so he will miss the finals series.
Next Saturday, the Eagles will look for an outright win.
The second grade Eagles are struggling on 9-83 chasing Lane Cove’s 98.
Eagles’ third grade captain took 5-42 to send Lane Cove to the sheds with 121. Then the Eagles’ batting imploded leaving them 9-83 with only Marlon Meurling scoring 32.
