AUSTRALIA Day celebrations will be spread throughout Canterbury Bankstown with three pool parties and a Twilight Party at Belmore Oval.

Mayor Khal Asfour says Australia Day is a time when everyone can come together and celebrate and there is a program full of activities for everyone to do just that.
Pool parties will be held at the Birrong, Canterbury and Max Parker leisure and aquatic centres (10am-4pm), with a DJ, jumping castle, inflatable play park, and lots of food and drinks.
Then, from 5pm, residents can head to the Twilight Party at Belmore Oval, where there will be free carnival rides, obstacle courses, and live entertainment, including a performance by Baby Shark for the little ones to enjoy.
At Belmore, residents will also have the chance to meet members of the Canterbury Bulldogs Rugby League team and even have the chance to dance with the team’s cheerleaders.
Earlier in the day, Mayor Asfour will be joined by Canterbury Bankstown’s Australia Day Ambassador, actress, entertainer and author, Maria Venuti AM, to welcome 20 new Australian Citizens and name the winners of the Canterbury Bankstown Australia Day Awards.
“This is one of the best parts of the day – not only welcoming new citizens on Australia Day but also acknowledging the contributions of our City’s residents,” Mayor Asfour said.
The council will also be collecting gold coin donations to go towards the Red Cross’ efforts to rebuild communities affected by the bushfires, so if you see one of a council officer with a collection tin, please spare a gold coin or two.
