Too scared to leave home

CAUSING them stress on a daily basis, neighbouring Padstow residents say a public car parking spot between their duplexes, when in use, is extremely dangerous.

Living opposite Playford Park at 188 and 188A Gibson Avenue, Lorraine and Robert Kingsland and Lorraine’s parents Marcello and Maria Suplina acquired the properties about seven years ago and say vehicles using the parking spot block vision of the road. They also say that trucks parked illegally beside the park (opposite their homes) are adding to the problem.
“I am terrified something is going to happen; as it is, Dad is too scared to go out now and on the odd occasion he does, gets us or Mum to stand on the street to guide him out but that is also very risky,” Mrs Kingsland said.
“A lot of the people using the spot too park over our lines which makes it even harder, totally blocking our exit or entry.”
Mrs Kingsland said she had been in touch with council staff who were sympathetic but said they wanted to charge them over $1,600 ($313 for their application and $1,292 for two signs and posts).
“We can’t afford that and wonder why it’s so much for a bit of paint,” Lorraine said.
A council spokesperson said: “The resident contacted council regarding their driveway being blocked by motorists. Council advised (in 2018) there are a number of options available to alleviate their concerns.
“One of these options was for the installation of parking restriction signs, which are subject to specific costs as per Council’s Fees and Charges. If this option is selected, approval must be sought through Transport for NSW, as the space is within one kilometre of Padstow Station.”
