This follows a commitment from Canterbury Bankstown Council which will match the contributions raised by not-for-profit groups, including the Earlwood Business Chamber of Commerce (EBCC), to stage the fest.
A great win for the Earlwood community, EBCC President George Massouridis said his group, Canterbury MP Sophie Cotsis, Canterbury Bankstown Councillor Clare Raffan and others have been working hard to bring back the festival.
“Earlwood Village Festival supports our local business and local economy,” he said.
“Businesses in Campsie and Lakemba are able to take part in the Campsie Food and Haldon Street Festivals, however our businesses in Earlwood have not had the same opportunity.
“The festival is much welcomed and anticipated by our local retail industry. The Chamber would like to thank Sophie Cotsis for her continued support for local businesses in Earlwood.”
Ms Cotsis said: “Earlwood Village Festival was a popular festival where business showcased their goods and services, the community got together and students performed and displayed their multicultural diversity.
“I am awaiting a response from NSW Government regarding additional funding for the festival.”
Canterbury Ward Cr Raffan said: “Under the Village Festival Program, calendar events like Earlwood Village Festival are able to be reinstated. These festivals capture the character of the local community through multicultural entertainment, community performances and local stalls.”
