A spokesperson for the airport said pilots of planes and helicopters rated for visual flying, were unable to operate in the smoky conditions, however emergency services, including firefighting aircraft which are instrument rated, were unaffected.
Canterbury Bankstown Council says they have and will continue to close outdoor pools and golf courses due to health concerns related to the hazy conditions.
A council spokesperson said: “We are guided by the experts, with the health of our residents our priority, so if particle readings provided by the (Department of Planning, Industry and Environment) increase on any particular day, we close our pools and Sefton Golf Course, for a period of time.”
