Artists urged for Metro public art bid

INNER West Council is calling for artists to install bold contemporary public artworks at the new Marrickville Metro.

The project is an opportunity to create a public artwork in the heart of Marrickville, “home to one of the best collections of street art in Australia”.
A council spokesperson said the Inner West area had an impressive collection of street art in a variety of styles, and the new Marrickville Metro was a unique opportunity to add to this unique collection.
AMP Capital Investors in partnership with the council through EDGE Inner West, is seeking Expressions of Interest for three high profile sites.
The combined value of public art commissions is $128,000: Smidmore Street ($50,000); Edinburgh Road ($28,000); and Murray Street ($50,000).
Closing date for Expressions of Interest is Wednesday, December 11.
Information sessions for interested artists will be held at Marrickville Metro Centre Management Office (The Vicars Mill House), this Thursday (November 21), 2-3pm and 6-7pm. These sessions are an opportunity to hear an overview of the Marrickville Metro development, the curatorial approach to public art, artist briefs, project scope and methodology.
Historic items will be displayed and attendees can tour the site surrounds, discuss ideas and ask questions.
