Kmart Wishing Tree back

AS the Christmas decorations start to appear in shops, the Kmart Wishing Tree has been launched again for 2019, with organisers at the Bankstown store aiming to collect more than 1,000 gifts to help needy families.

Invite to donate a gift to needy family or individual

Now in its 32nd year, the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal is Australia’s largest and longest running Christmas gift appeal, supporting families and individuals who are unable to provide presents at Christmas.
Through the generosity of Australians and charity partners, the Salvation Army, the appeal has collected over 8 million gifts Australia wide, and this year, organisers are aiming to help over 300,000 families.
In 2018, the appeal collected almost 1,000 gifts for Bankstown’s needy, and this year, organisers hope to go bigger and better.
“Take a tag off the wishing tree and place it on the gift, then pop it under the tree,” an organiser said.
“Don’t forget all ages – from the young to the old.
“We ask that people especially remember the elderly at this time of the year because we all love Christmas no matter what age.
“The Salvation Army will pick up the gifts and distribute them to families and individuals experiencing hard times.”
Organisers thank shoppers for all their support in the appeal over the years and hope to see the tradition continue again this year.
