Snaps up first photo win

A STUNNING aerial photograph taken from a Cessna flying over a bauxite mine near Perth, has landed Padstow resident Karen Hyunh (pictured) her first award win.

Despite only taking up photography two years ago, Karen’s photo ‘Flames’ has taken out the landscape prize at the 2019 Sony Alpha Awards.
“It was a big shock to be announced as the winner because this is the first time I have entered a competition,” Karen, 30, said.
“I did not really expect anything because the calibre of the other entries were so high.
“I really did not plan for this image, it just happened.”
Karen says she loves aerial photography because it gives her another dimension to work with.
“I love landscape photography and aerial imagery is even better as you get a different perspective,” she said.
“I was recently on safari in Africa so I have started to enjoy wildlife photography too.
“I like being outdoors and love travelling which goes hand in hand with having a camera there to capture all the moments.”
And after receiving her first award, is Karen considering turning her hobby into a profession?
“I really love my day job in analytics and am not ready to give up that year but photography is such a nice creative outlet.”
