Groups share in windfall

SUMMER Hill Folk Festival is one 66 Inner West projects to receive a slice of more than $300,000 in council funding.

Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne says the projects, funded under the Inner West Council 2019-20 Grant Program, aim to address local issues, promote social justice, enhance wellbeing and foster inclusion and social connection.
He says the grants enable the community to develop projects and programs that address local needs.
“I’ve seen for myself the amazing work that has been achieved by previous year’s grant winners. I can’t wait to see results from this year’s funded projects,” he said.
Some of the funded projects include:
Summer Hill Folk Festival received $7,500 to present a day-long festival of folk and acoustic popular music over three stages with Irish dancing and artisan markets in and around the grounds of the iconic Summer Hill Church;
Voices of Women: Adventure in the Spoken Word received $3,000 for a live performance of women writers’ short stories with the theme, Dreams and Desires;
Wires Inner West received $5,479 for a flight aviary within Wilkins Green Community Gardens in Marrickville to rehabilitate native birds that have been in care before release; and
Minus18 Queer Formal received $7,500 for their third ‘Queer Formal’ which last year was attended by more than 300 young people.
