Donate gifts for sick children thanks to daughter’s legacy

THREE Australian families will be told today that their child has cancer; three families this week will lose their child to cancer.

With these facts known only too well after their beautiful little daughter, Alegra, died from brain cancer at the tender age of six, Canterbury couple Marino and Sue-Ellan Vasiliou launched The Little Legs Foundation to be a reminder to her siblings of the vibrant life Alegra had, while helping to raise money to beat the disease so that other families might be spared in the future.
The Little Legs Foundation Charity Gala Ball in March, its first major event, raised an incredible $483,563.00, all of which was donated to The Charlie Teo Foundation to fund brain cancer research and help find a cure.
Now, Little Legs’ very first Coffee 4 a Cure Day has raised $24,317.15.
Held on September 19, it was also a celebration of Alegra’s birthday with friends and family bringing gifts that were then distributed to Bear Cottage, a children’s hospice providing end of life care and respite for children with life-limiting illness and their families.
“We are honoured to help in any way we can because we know how important places like this are,” Sue-Ellan said.
“Emmanuela and Strato were so excited to share the joy their sister had by donating all the gifts brought to Alegra’s birthday party.
“Alegra will move mountains, not in the capacity we had dreamed of, however she will continue to shine bright.”
