After national award win for ‘most innovative robot’
The only girls high school in the competition has been fundraising madly since being notified of their win earlier this month, to pay for the flight tickets and accommodation.
“We are so proud of the girls and their determination to take on the challenge,” Principal Suada Bilali said.
“Our students created the most innovative robot in the competition, named ‘Susan’ as a dedication to the fourth student who helped them.
“Having these great role models will pave the way for more of our students to enter these challenges with confidence.
“Bankstown Girls has a high number of students from low socio-economic backgrounds and so the way the school and community got behind us to get the girls to Japan is greatly appreciated.
“As Bankstown already has a sister city relationship with Suita in Japan, we feel that we are contributing in our own small way to strengthening our relationship with the Japanese community.
“It is going to be fantastic for our students to compete in this prestigious robotics challenge against other successful schools from around the world.”
