INVESTIGATIONS into how a Bankstown public school student ended-up in a critical condition in Westmead Children's Hospital yesterday are continuing.
NSW Ambulance paramedics and Bankstown police were called to Wattawa Public School on The Avenue about 11.30am on Tuesday after reports that a 10-year-old boy had been injured.
Initial police reports said that the boy had suffered a medical episode. However, a NSW Police spokesperson told the Torch today that investigations are now underway into the possibility that the boy had been injured through "misadventure".
"There were some media allegations of assault. It wasn't a malicious incident," a police spokeswoman said.
"It is not a bashing. It was some sort of misadventure."
The spokeswoman said it is too early to understand exactly what happened to the boy.
The boy remains in a critical condition in Westmead Hospital, and investigations into the incident are continuing.
