DETECTIVES have released CCTV of two people and a vehicle as they appeal for information into two suspicious fires at a Bankstown function centre.
Strike Force Babel was established by detectives from the Property Crime Squad's Arson Unit and Bankstown Local Area Command to investigate two deliberately lit fires at the Restwell Street function centre in December 2016 and January 2017.
Emergency services were called to the first fire about 4.45am on Boxing Day last year. The blaze was extinguished a short time later, but had caused major smoke damage.
About 6pm eight days later, emergency services were called to another fire at the function centre, which caused significant structural damage.
As part of their ongoing inquiries, Strike Force Babel detectives have released CCTV depicting two people inside the function centre on Boxing Day, and vision of a vehicle seen in the area at around the time the first fire was ignited.
Investigators believe the vehicle depicted is a black 2002-2016 XR-model Ford utility with black on yellow registration plates.
Anyone who recognises the people or ute in the CCTV, or has information about either fire, is urged to contact investigators.
Police are urging anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Babel investigators to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/ Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
