TWENTY people had to flee a three-storey unit block in Granville after a fire broke out on the top floor on Thursday.
A spokesperson for Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW), said they received reports of thick black smoke coming from the William Street building just before 9.15am.
When firefighters arrived, they found one unit on the top level alight with a fire on the external balcony and were able to quickly bring it under control.
One person was treated for smoke inhalation and there was minor damage to the unit.
On Friday afternoon, firefighters also responded to a blaze at a two-storey duplex on Sherwood Street at Merrylands, which caused a partial roof collapse and serious damage to the property.
A spokesperson for FRNSW, urged people to remain vigilant in the final months of winter and to check fire safety tips at fire.nsw.gov.au.
