Wendi Nutt is bringing back old world glamour through her exciting millinery designs.
THE Inner West's very own mad hatter, Lewisham resident Wendi Nutt has been creating gorgeous couture hats and bridal headpieces for over 26 years.
Each piece is individually designed for clients, using traditional millinery techniques, and unusual materials that Wendi has collected over the years.
"Not a drop of glue is used, and each piece is hand stitched by me - I have never repeated a design," says the award-winning designer.
"I have enough imagination to last me a lifetime, so I am not influenced by overseas artists and have no need to copy the designs of others.
"My wonderful clients are racing enthusiasts, men and women who have won fashions on the field, fashion lovers, brides and other members of the bridal party.
"I also design for TV and theatre and the music industry. I find inspiration from the cyclical nature of fashion and love collecting vintage feathers, trims, hat blocks and fashion magazines from the 40s and 50s."
With 'Made in Australia' part of Wendi's ethos, she encourages young people starting a fashion business to keep the industry and manufacturing in Australia.
Also a painter and sculptor and to complement her millinery designs, Wendi is also a personal stylist.
"I help clients to achieve their styling goals by dressing for their colours, body shape and their proportion," she says. "I also offer this service to horse racing clients entering Fashions on the Field. I love restoring and repairing vintage pieces, and encourage my clients to have their hats re-styled and re-trimmed - a little facelift for their hats!"
