NEW 40km/h speed limits are being rolled out across Newtown to help slow traffic and improve safety for people in the area.
The new limit will cover all streets bounded by King Street, Erskineville Road, Queen Street and the railway line.
Official 40km/h signs will be in place from mid-May, with new speed humps and road markings also installed.
More than 40 people walking and riding bikes have been injured by cars in Newtown since 2011. In the past five years, there were 169 recorded crashes in the area and at least 13 of them were because the driver was speeding.
