Dr Sohaib Virk will start his career at Auburn Hospital, the same hospital where he was born.
BORN at Auburn Hospital nearly 25 years ago, Sohaib Virk will return this week but this time it will be to begin his career as a doctor.
Along with 141 other newly minted medical graduates, Dr Virk will begin a one-year medical internship within the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) and admits that while he is excited, he is also a little bit nervous.
However with his father working as a GP in Auburn, his brother training to be a psychiatrist and his sister in her second year of medical studies, he has plenty of people to turn to for advice and tips.
"I should imagine I will see some of the patients under my father's care at the hospital from time to time," he said.
Hoping to eventually specialise in cardiology, which means he has several more years of study ahead of him, Dr Virk says training never really stops.
"Treatment keeps advancing and our understanding of conditions also keeps changing and you have to keep up to date with it," he said. "I always wanted to be in a field where I could make someone's life a bit better."
