Tarisha Gunaratnam and Hyehee Shin are celebrating their success in the International Baccalaureate exams.
MLC STUDENTS Tarisha Gunaratnam from Lidcombe and Hyehee Shin from Newington are celebrating their success in the 2015 International Baccalaureate (IB) exams.
The pair each scored 42 out of 45 in the exam giving them an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 99.45.
An alternative to the Higher School Certificate (HSC), the IB is offered at a number of private schools in NSW, including MLC.
Tarisha admitted that she never expected to do quite as well as she did.
"So I am really pleased," she said.
"We had some really great teachers who were really supportive and helped us achieve the best that we could.
"They spent a lot of their time not only helping us with study but also making sure we weren't getting too stressed."
While Tarisha hasn't made up her mind yet about exactly what she wants to do at university, she is considering a degree in science.
Hyehee admitted doubts crept in after finishing the exams and she said receiving her final mark was a great relief.
"I was glad I got the help I needed from my teachers," she said.
"They definitely pushed me in the right direction."
She said that while there was strong competition within the MLC student group, with many of them doing well, they also encouraged each other especially towards the end of the year.
Hyehee has a passion for engineering and plans to study a Commerce/Engineering degree at the University of Sydney.
